The Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) Department at Virginia Tech has an opportunity for a visiting faculty member under an IPA agreement from LaRC. We invite a researcher to work in collaboration with MSE faculty in one or more of the following areas: metals, ceramics, polymers, nanomaterials, microelectronics, multifunctional materials, unique materials processing, biomaterials. This position will include both teaching and research opportunities relating to materials. The candidate will teach one class per semester that will include a new graduate course in materials, as well as an established undergraduate course in MSE. In addition, the position will include a large research component that builds on the existing programs in MSE and NASA. More information on these research programs can be found at www.mse.vt.edu.

Assignment of duties will include classroom teaching, and the supervision of graduate students and research. All facilities provided to regular faculty of the Department are available to the IPA visitor, including the use of office, laboratory and computational facilities. The appointment can be made at the beginning of a Fall, Spring, or Summer semester, and may be for a period of 1 to 2 years, or more.

Expectations include the teaching of one assigned course per academic semester, and participation in research projects including the advising of graduate students and scholarly publication. Requirements include a Ph.D. in an appropriate specialty, and a record of research and publication.

The Department will provide the visitor with a furnished apartment in a local complex near the Blacksburg campus.
