PROSPECTIVE LaRC MENTORS

Prospective mentors, whether civil servant or contractor, who are interested in supporting a LARSS intern to work for their organization during the 10-week summer internship, or as a 15-week spring or fall intern, should contact Debbie Murray, (757)864-5215 or Sarah Pauls, (757)864-4394, for additional details.

For all sessions, mentors will pay a program support fee plus the dollar amount of the stipend award for the student. Additional time outside of the 10 or 15 weeks will be charged the stipend amount plus an additional prorated program support fee.

The Contracting Organization will agree to the following:
  • Place the student(s) selected in a safe research or related environment.
  • Provide a Mentor.
  • Develop a research experience relevant to the student's interest in Aerospace or an area that supports NASA's mission.
  • Provide safety training as required for the student(s).
  • Attend the required program Mentor Training and Safety Meeting.
  • Provide the funding to support the student prior to the start of the internship assignment.
  • Accept all rules and regulations for mentoring a student, as identified by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, the National Institute of Aerospace, and NASA.
ATTENTION:
Prospective Mentors are welcome to review the LARSS Guidance Handbook to gain perspective on program rules and their potential responsibilities. The following documents are also recommended:

[LARSS] “indicated to me that learning continues throughout life and there are other fields that I am interested in pursuing. In addition, having a degree in that field can even open more doors and potentially another opportunity with NASA.”
