Abstract
Over that past ten to fifteen years, a strong Materials Science and Engineering (MS&E) faculty has been recruited into the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) Department at West Virginia University (WVU. This talk will give and overview of the research capabilities and ongoing research projects undertaken by this group of twelve tenure-track MS&E faculty within the WVU MAE Department. In addition, a brief overview of the WVU MAE Department, and its research productivity and graduate programs will be given.

The major Materials Science & Engineering areas of research expertise in the MAE Department include:
1.) Advanced composite materials (3 faculty),
2.) Nanomaterials and nanodevices (3 faculty),
3.) Thin films and barrier coatings (2 faculty),
4.) Fuel cells, batteries, supercapacitors, and solar cells (6 faculty),
5.) Metals and high-temperatures materials (2 faculty),
6.) Characterization of materials (2 faculty), and
7.) Computational and multi-scale modeling of materials (4 faculty).

Summaries of current and recent activity in each of these areas will be given in the presentation.
