Research Project: Advanced Composite Actuator/Sensor Systems for Aerospace Applications
University Advisor: Prof. James Hubbard, Aerospace Engineering, University of Maryland
NASA Mentor: Dr. Ji Su, Advanced Materials and Processing Branch

Research will focus on developing advanced hybrid electroactive composites actuator/sensor systems for aerospace applications. Several different configurations of piezoelectric and electrostrictive hybrid actuator/sensor systems will be fabricated based on current theoretical modeling. The performances of the devices will be evaluated experimentally and theoretically in ambient environment. Finally, the prototype devices will be characterized in special environments for aerospace applications. This research is partially supported by a sub grant from TRS, Inc.
