Research Project: Negative Index Materials for Sensing
University Advisor: Prof. Mool Gupta, Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Virginia
NASA Mentor: Dr. R. Wes Lawrence, Electromagnetics and Sensors Branch, Research and Technology Directorate (RTD)

Research will be in the general area of negative index materials for sensing applications. Student will work closely with Dr. Robin Cravey and Dr. Wes Lawrence on use of microwave and millimeter waves based sensors using negative index material configurations. Student will be fabricating some of the structures using laser micromachining techniques and other methods. Negative index materials is a relatively new discovery and has significant potential for photonics, microwave and millimeter waves components such as compact antennas, lenses and use of unique properties of evanescent waves for device fabrication and applications.
