Paul A. Cooper, Ph.D.

Paul A. Cooper received his BSME and MSME from Northeastern University in 1962 and 1964 respectively. He earned his Doctorate in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1968. He joined the staff of the NASA Langley Research center in 1964 as a research engineer and performed research and program management tasks on a wide variety of high-speed aeronautics and space transportation, and satellite structures until his retirement from government service in 1998. During his tenure at NASA he was awarded the Apollo Achievement Award and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal. He has 14 years teaching experience on the university level having taught undergraduate engineering classes at Northeastern University, both undergraduate and graduate engineering classes at Old Dominion University, and graduate engineering classes at George Washington University. He has had approximately fifty technical papers published by NASA, AIAA, ASME, the Journal of Computers and Structures, the Journal of Composite Materials, the Shock and Vibration Bulletin, and the Army Materials Research Agency. He was employed as a Research Professor of Aerospace Engineering at George Washington University in the Joint Institute for Advancement of Flight Sciences from March 1999 to September 2004.
