Kenneth H. Sunshine
Mr. Sunshine was named Chief Financial Officer of the National Institute of Aerospace at the beginning of 2004. He oversees the institutes’ finance and accounting functions.
Prior to joining the NIA management team, Mr. Sunshine was Chief Financial Officer of Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation where he completed a $15 million round of private equity – the company’s first sizeable infusion of capital. He also implemented financial systems and controls that substantially improved the rapidly growing company’s forecasting and budgeting capabilities.
From 1989 to 2002, Mr. Sunshine spent 13 years at Orbital Sciences Corporation, where he undertook a series of senior management rolls in the company’s satellite programs and Corporate Office, ultimately as Senior Vice President of Finance and Treasurer. While at Orbital, he participated in or led more than fifteen capital markets transactions that raised close to $2 billion in capital from a wide range of debt and equity markets, both public and private. He also played a significant role in more than a dozen M&A transactions. These capital markets and M&A transactions helped to grow the company from $50 million in revenues to almost $1 billion in less than 12 years. His responsibilities also included treasury functions and investor relations. Before attending business school, Mr. Sunshine spent four years as a staff engineer at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory. Mr. Sunshine holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He has served on the Board of Directors of Constellation Communications, Inc. and was Vice-Chairman of the founding session of the International Space University.
