Subject: "An Overview of the Active Aeroelastic Wing Flight Research Program"

The Active Aeroelastic Wing program is a joint program between the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), NASA/Dryden Flight Research Center and the Boeing Company. The program was begun in August of 1996 and its goal is to develop flight validated active aeroelastic wing technology design guidance suitable for use on a future aircraft program. This is the final step in a 20-year technology maturation process, which has its roots in the Active Flexible Wing program, a program in which NASA/LaRC played a significant role. The presentation will provide an overview of active aeroelastic wing technology, its benefits, and the AAW design process. Results from the flight test program will also be reviewed. Finally, the benefits of AAW technology to the Morphing Aircraft Program will be addressed.
