NIA News Release 2007-07
April 13, 2007
HAMPTON, Va. – The National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) is hosting the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Region 1 – Mid Atlantic Student Conference on April 13-14, 2007. AIAA student members from nine universities will present their research work and compete for awards. AIAA students will also share AIAA experiences, participate in social activities and exchange ideas about current topics in aerospace engineering. Approximately 120 undergraduate and graduate students will be attending from schools including the University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Penn State, the University of Maryland, and Old Dominion University.
Paper presentations are divided into four categories: undergraduate, masters, team and exhibition. Winners of the undergraduate and masters divisions receive cash prizes and the opportunity to attend and present their work at the AIAA Foundation International Student Conference in Reno, Nevada in January 2008. The meeting includes a Young Professionals Panel where students can ask questions of professionals new to the workplace. The students will cap their activities with an awards banquet at the Virginia Air and Space Center with NASA Langley Research Center Chief Scientist Dennis Bushnell serving as guest speaker.
