Pre-Service Teacher Annual National STEM Professional Development Workshop
February 12-14, 2009
Hyatt Regency Hotel
Reston, VA
THEME: Celebrating NASA's 50 Years: Past, Present, and Future
The Pre-Service Teacher STEM Professional Development Workshop is held each winter and hosts several hundred prospective elementary and middle school teachers from selected Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions ( HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs, and some majority institutions. Students and faculty are exposed to invigorating general sessions and hands-on breakout sessions with STEM experts. The PSTSP Workshop also includes a juried poster contest, vendors, and a Professional Development Expo where students have the opportunity to meet with recruiters while exploring public school systems and graduate schools from across the country. Students are encouraged to bring copies of their resumes.
The primary goal of the Pre-Service Teacher STEM program is to help future elementary and middle school teachers become better educators in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) while using NASA resources. This year, in addition to our partnership with the National Institute of Aerospace and Hampton University, we are partnering with the Ed Tech Collaborative to host a pre-workshop discussion about the annual poster competition. Join us at http://www.edtechcollaborative.com/stable/using-edtech-with-nasa-programs.html to learn about the requirements, rubric, and some ideas to help you with the competition.
