The Center for Integrated Systems Health Monitoring Laboratory (ISHM) at the National Institute of Aerospace will be an extension of research thrusts already underway at North Carolina State University. The Center will exist as an academic haven for the advancement of sensors, actuators, microprocessors, and other devices and technologies instrumental in developing advanced Structural Health Monitoring systems, as well as a springboard for students to explore advancements in energy harvesting, and metamaterials.

The Center will be complimented by NIA’s forthcoming Integrated Systems Health Monitoring Laboratory (ISHM). Architectural space, instruments, and other resources have already been secured for this laboratory. It’s expected to open its doors later in 2012, or early 2013. Within the laboratory, students will be able to bring theory into practice as they work on a variety of projects that will advance structural and material technologies in the aerospace industry and beyond.
