 Media & Communications Group

NIA's Media and Communications Group consists of EmmyTM awarding winning videographers and producers. The Group writes, directs, and produces NIA programs that can be seen or heard online, on public televion, and over public radio.

The Group is also available to livestream events, and in the past has provided livestreaming services for events such as the GRAIL and JUNO launches and national conferences for NASA and AIAA. The Group has also provided video, web, and on-site conference support for numerous TEDx events.

Team Bios:

 
Tom Shortridge


Tom Shortridge is an award-winning video producer from Sussex County, Delaware.

After graduating from Sussex Technical High School with a concentration in Media Broadcasting, Tom completed his degree in Communication at McDaniel College with a minor in Film & Video Studies.

Following an internship at the National Institute of Aerospace in Virginia, where he shot second-camera on the pilot episode of NASA 360, Tom went back to Delaware and worked as a news videographer at the local CBS affiliate.

In 2008, Tom returned to the National Institute of Aerospace, where he continues to work on NASA 360 as the second-camera and Steadicam operator. He also writes, directs, and produces NASA Launchpad, the high-school component of the NASA eClips™ educational video program.

Tom currently resides in Norfolk, VA, with his wife.


Scott Bednar

Scott Bednar is an Emmy award-winning video producer from Seaford, New York.

Bednar matriculated from Towson University in Maryland, where he pursued a degree in Electronic Media and Film. During that time he gain experience as an intern with Renegade Studios, and before coming to the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), Bednar spent a number of years working on the team of a national trade newspaper.

His past projects at NIA include: NASA & You and Discovery Now. He has also provided support for the Virginia Beach City Public School Dynamic Video Library, TEDxNASA, and NASA 360.

Today he is a producer for both NASA eClips™ and Innovation Now.

Bednar is the recipient of a number of awards including Aegis, Digital Video, Accolade, Davey, and W3.

He resides in Norfolk, Virginia.
