Current Research
Decorating carbon nanotubes with metal/metal oxide nanoparticles: Such metal/carbon nanohybrids were prepared from a substrate-assisted thermal decomposition approach that is facile, versatile, and scalable. We are currently exploring electrical, thermal, and catalytic applications of these nanohybrids with various compositions.
Creating 2-dimensional boron nitride: Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets were prepared via chemical exfoliation of bulk h-BN powder materials. h-BN is the structural analog of grpahene, but with boron and nitrogen atoms alternatively positioned in each plane. Contrary to the conductive graphene materials, h-BN is an insulator with wide band-gap, but similarly thermally conductive, thus viable for thermal and dielectric composite and electronic applications.
Modifying surfaces to mimick gecko foot hair topography: We are currently evaluating various substrates on which these topographic features can form for passive yet effective dust mitigation.
