Lessons Learned from NASA Space Flight Programs
for Future Human Exploration

Jim Van Laak, Director of LaRC's Systems Management Office

The lecture will review major lessons learned by major programs in NASA and elsewhere in the space flight field. It will draw on formal lessons-learned assessments performed by the Apollo, Space Shuttle, Shuttle-Mir, and International Space Station programs. In addition, it will include observations and critical decision support elements used in formulating NASA policies such as the Human Rating Requirements and other high-level agency guidance.

It is designed to provide useful information to system designers, analysts, architects, project and program managers, and anyone else involved in directing technical and programmatic decision making. Hard copies of lecture materials will be provided at the door.
