Global Comparison of Active (CALIPSO) and Passive (MODIS) Cloud Property Retrievals
Dr. Robert Holz, University of Wisconsin-Madison

The successful launch of CALIPSO as part of the NASA A-Train constellation of satellites offers an unprecedented opportunity to investigate the sensitivity differences between active remote sensed cloud properties (CALIPSO) and passive retrievals (MODIS). This talk will present comparisons of global collocated CALIPSO and MODIS measurements with a focus on cirrus cloud top heights. The importance of considering the vertical distribution of cloud extinction will be discussed.
