A Perspective on 21st Century Aeronautics Michael Francis, General Atomics
This look ahead into future prospects and opportunities in aeronautics is based on emerging technologies, international events and trends, and national and global interests. The influence of information technologies as drivers in aerospace systems and applications is discussed, highlighting the unmanned air system as both catalyst and pathfinder. The resulting potential for new mission capabilities is described, with applications ranging from urban defense to global climate monitoring. To put these prospects into context, current issues and obstacles to their realization are discussed, along with some ideas for their potential resolution.
