A Gas-Kinetic Scheme on Adaptive and Moving Mesh
Kun Xu, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

In this talk, we are going to present a gas-kinetic BGK scheme for the viscous flow computation with adaptive and moving mesh. Firstly, an grid adaptation method is constructed based on a monitor function to control the grid concentration. For the viscous flow computation, the grid can be distributed heavily on the regions with large velocity gradient, such as the shock and boundary layer. Secondly, we are going to use a coordinate transformation to translate the BGK model into a moving reference of frame, then a corresponding gas-kinetic BGK scheme on a dynamically moving mesh is obtained. Thirdly, a new scheme combining the above two approaches is constructed. Many numerical examples, i.e., free surface flow, oscillating airfoil, and shock impinging on a rotating cylinder, will be presented. This research is based a joint work with Ms. Changqiu Jin.
