Established in 2002, the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA) has a mission to provide for the public access to technology transfer and commercialization opportunities that have been conceived at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) by NIA researchers.
NIA provides researchers to assist NASA Langley Research Center in basic research areas and to provide researchers to enhance work products so that they can percolate into commercially attractive opportunities.
As you can see from the diagram below, NIA’s approach takes conceptual ideas at the lowest technical readiness level (TRL) and moves the conceptual idea to a TRL at the product opportunity level.
