Bruel & Kjaer Laboratory for Aerospace Vibration and Acoustics

The Bruel & Kjaer Laboratory for Aerospace Vibration and Acoustics mission is to carry out cutting edge research and education in vibration and acoustics primarily focused on aircraft, rotorcraft and spacecraft.  Areas on particular interest are active noise and vibration control, advanced beam forming methods, meta acoustic materials, multi-functional energy harvesting/vibration control systems and advanced sensing methods. The laboratory has state of the art acoustic and vibration test equipment including multi-channel data acquisition systems, small and large shaker platforms, calibrators as well as range of  a number of acoustic and vibration transducers. The laboratory is sponsored by Bruel &Kjaer world leaders in acoustic and vibration transducers as well as signal processing software systems. Under this arrangement the laboratory has access to the latest transducers and measurement systems. Other areas of research interest are application of acoustics in medicine and control of vibration and noise in marine vessels. The laboratory works closely with NASA Langley staff as well as researchers at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Newport News Shipbuilding.
