Mr. Christian serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of the corporation, as well as treasurer of the NIA Foundation and the Peninsula Technology Incubator.  He leads all financial, accounting and budget activities as an active member of the executive management team and is responsible for the development and implementation of short and long-term strategic financial planning.

Prior to joining NIA in 2008, Mr. Christian was the Deputy Chief Financial Officer for Finance at NASA Langley Research Center where he led and directed all accounting and financial matters for over $700 million in annual financial operations, a 3,000 person workforce, and $1 billion in critical national assets.  From 1997 through 2002 Mr. Christian served as a founding member of NASA’s Independent Program Assessment Office where he provided leadership and recognized personal contributions in establishing NASA’s integrated independent technical and financial assessment function for the Office of the Administrator.  Mr. Christian previously held numerous financial, auditing, and management positions with NASA and the Air Force.  Mr. Christian began his career as a staff accountant for Coopers & Lybrand, Certified Public Accountants (now PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP) where he provided financial audit services to a variety of clients including banks, wholesale distributers, manufacturers, municipalities, universities, television stations, nonprofit organizations, and federal grants and contracts.

Mr. Christian is a Certified Public Accountant in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. He holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University.  Mr. Christian has also taught graduate and undergraduate accounting courses for over 28 years, most recently at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the College of William and Mary, Mason School of Business.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants.
