Throckmorton Honored with 2022 AIAA Distinguished Service Award
David A. Throckmorton, Vice President for Research at the National Institute of Aerospace (NIA), has been selected by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) to receive the 2022 AIAA Distinguished Service Award. AIAA is the world’s largest aerospace technical society with nearly 30,000 individual members worldwide hailing from industry, academia, and government.
The award is part of AIAA’s Premier Awards, which recognize the most influential and inspiring individuals in aerospace, whose outstanding contributions merit the highest accolades. The Distinguished Service Award honors an individual member who has provided distinguished service to AIAA over a period of years and will be presented at the AIAA Awards Gala in Washington D.C., April 27.
Throckmorton was cited “For over three decades of leadership and exemplary service to AIAA at the section and national level.” Throckmorton is an AIAA Fellow and has received numerous awards throughout his long career including the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive, the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, the Astronauts’ “Silver Snoopy” Award for contributions to the safety of human spaceflight.
